Libby Larsen: All Around Sound (A Young Person's Introduction to Orchestral Sound)

The Festival's popular "petting zoo" style tour of the Orchestra is so much fun, we're going to keep on doing it! Once the adventure is under way, Conductor Marin Alsop and the Cabrillo Festival Orchestra will be joined by composer Libby Larsen for her sensational work, All Around Sound. It's a young person's introduction to orchestral sound, and to compose the work Libby asked students to record and submit sounds. The result is a composition that integrates their collected recordings of an alarm clock, a ball bouncing, a telephone, a nose blowing, and even an ambulance! It proves that sound is all around us and any sound we hear –– loud, soft, harsh, or beautiful –– can be played by an orchestra!
