Lee Duckles

Cellist, Lee Duckles has enjoyed a relatively long association with the Cabrillo Festival of Contemporary Music having first joined the Festival Orchestra as principal cellist in 1978. A native of Berkeley, California Duckles received his degree from the University of Illinois and participated in a number of postgraduate master classes with cellists Mstislav Rostropovich, Janos Starker, and Harvey Shapiro.

Duckles is currently the principal cellist of the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra in BC, Canada, as well as a faculty member at the University of British Columbia, the Vancouver Academy of Music, and the President of the Vancouver Cello Club. He was a founding performer-member of the Vancouver New Music Society, the Masterpiece Chamber Music Series at the Vancouver East Cultural Center, and the contemporary music ensemble, Days, Months, & Years to Come.

An active recitalist and chamber music performer, Duckles has appeared in a number of music festivals in California, Colorado, Washington, Alaska, British Columbia, and South Korea.

Duckles has recorded for the CBC, Polydor Records, the Musical Heritage Society of America, and Skylark Records with the salon music ensemble, Viveza.

Duckles owns an Acer Benikamachi, a power drill, and a Jack Russell terrier.
