Kristin Jurkscheit, horn

Kristin Jurkscheit is principal horn of the Cabrillo Festival Orchestra where she celebrates her 20th anniversary season this summer. Jurkscheit has been the Third/Associate Principal Horn of the Colorado Symphony Orchestra in Denver, Colorado, for 18 years. During that time, she performed as soloist in the Horn Concerto No. 2, K. 417 by Mozart, the Concerto No. 3, K. 447 by Mozart, and Schumann's Konzertstuck for Four Horns, Op 86.  She is a regular sub with the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra (including a recent recording of Dvorak Symphony No. 7, Op. 70 and Scherzo Capriccioso).  Jurkscheit has performed with the Washington Symphonic Brass, the National Philharmonic, and at the International Horn Symposium in 2007. Jurkscheit currently teaches at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC), taught at the Barry Tuckwell Institute in 2006, and has given master classes at various colleges in Colorado. She has studied with Julie Landsman, Froydis Ree Wekre, Richard Sebring and Charles Kavaloski.  Twice a fellow at the Tanglewood Music Center, she received her Bachelors degree in Music from the New England Conservatory of Music. This season, Jurkscheit will be featured as soloist in the World Premiere of Chiayu's Xuan Zang, a concerto for horn written for her and in honor of Maestra Marin Alsop, and presented during the Grand Finale performances at Mission San Juan Bautista, Sunday, August 14, 2011.
