Once again, the adventure begins with the ever-popular “petting
zoo-style” tour of the orchestra, when everyone gets to journey in and
around the Civic Auditorium to see the different players of the
orchestra, up-close and personal with their instruments. Then everyone
returns to the theater for a full orchestra concert experience with
Conductors Marin Alsop and Carolyn Kuan conducting two rollicking works
that bring the Festival’s extraordinary principal percussionists, Galen
Lemmon and Steve Hearn, into the spotlight! Always a mesmerizing
experience for kids and their families, the Free Family Concert has
nurtured a generation—now two—of kids who grow up hearing a world class
orchestra perform world class music by living composers, right here in
Santa Cruz!
