Right now, I am in the midst of programming the 2007 season, which will take place July 30–August 12. It is such an exciting challenge for me and soon I will be able to share more of the details. But clearly we are emerging as the orchestra of preference for new works.
To quote composer Aaron Jay Kernis following our West Coast premiere of his Newly Drawn Sky, “the orchestra absolutely outdid themselves this past summer. I was so gratified by the response of players and audience. These performances really counted as a first-rate premiere of my work!" I can tell you that both 2007 and 2008 will have multiple world premieres, which is so exciting for me as more and more composers entrust us with the premieres of their newest works.
To be entrusted with this important new role and to do it well, we need everyone participating full-on!
