Aaron Jay Kernis: Color Wheel
The night begins with Puts' latest work entitled, Vespertine
Symphonies inspired by Icelandic singer Björk. Then
founder and Artistic Co-Director of New York's Bang on a Can Festival,
composer Julia Wolfe joins us for the U.S. Premiere of My
Beautiful Scream, written for and performed by Grammy Award-winner
Kronos Quartet. Pulitzer Prize-winning composer Aaron Jay Kernis
joins us for Color Wheel. With the designer's color
wheel and Sufi whirling dervishes as his visual inspirations, Kernis'
work employs a wide array of contrasts in dynamics and sounds for
a rich and colorful exploration of the orchestra. (Opening Night
begins with a Pre-Concert Talk by Marin Alsop and a special dinner
served al fresco at the Civic Auditorium.)
