a MAJOR-minor mystery
This is the festival where my son
discovered music could 'sound like candy tastes'.
--Good Times
Gregory Smith, composer (1997)
The Major, Minor Mystery is an exploration
of musics major and minor tonalities disguised as a "who-dunnit".
A symphony concert is sabotaged by a sudden and unexpected change from
major to minor. A major-minor expert (the narrator) is brought in to investigate.
He suspects everyone. He is cunning and ruthless as he interrogates the
various instruments of the orchestra. The investigation escalates to a
re-enactment of the ill-fated concert. A most surprising and unexpected
conclusion follows.
The listener is invited to join the investigation:
Once youve learned
To leave no tone unturned
Youll solve the mystery.
So listen carefully.
There is much to show you
Are you ready to follow me?
