Creativity Tent for Kids
Saturday, August 4
Sunday, August 5

Kids will experience art in all its forms and in all its glory during two full days of fun in the Festival's "Creativity Tent for Kids." In a magnificent tent in front of the Civic Auditorium, Saturday, August 4 is dedicated to hands-on music workshops including a percussion extravaganza by Rhythm Fusion.

Sunday, August 5
focuses on the visual arts for a day of Mexican-style embossing, clay animal creations, printmaking, stenciling, watercoloring and more! Eight talented artists devote their day to sharing their artistic techniques and their infectious love of their art. It's absolutely inspiring. And kids thrill to the delight of their own creativity when it's unleashed during a fun-filled, sometimes messy, weekend on Church Street.

Free Family Day
Sunday, August 5

You're invited to set out on a daring odyssey for the year 2001 at Cabrillo Music Festival's Family Day, August 5. This year promises to be especially adventurous for the whole family—the "Creativity Tent for Kids" offers cosmic hands-on art workshops, the Church Street Stage hosts out-of-this-world performances and, of course, the award-winning Festival Orchestra conducted by Marin Alsop presents a stellar concert for the next generation of music lovers.

Free Family Concert
"2001: A Space Odyssey"
2:00 p.m.
Civic Auditorium

Young and old alike will have stars in their eyes, literally, during this year's Free Family Concert. With the theme "2001: A Space Odyssey," Marin has crafted a performance that's not just an orchestral concert, but a voyage!

In The Eagle Has Landed by Marvin Lamb, you'll hear the stirring words of brave astronauts during the historic moon landing narrated by Milton Williams in a powerful and lyric voice, set to music and accompanied by dramatic space video from NASA.The star trek continues when the orchestra embarks on a tour of the solar system with Gustav Holst's The Planets (Jupiter and Mars) and into deep space for John Williams' Star Wars. Intimations of the future and the meaning of it all comes from the past with Strauss' Also sprach Zarathustra. Fasten your seatbelts and prepare for blast-off.

Free Family Performances on Church Street Stage
Before and after the Free Family Concert, don't miss performances on the outdoor Church Street Stage by students at the Santa Cruz Ballet Theatre and the sensational hip-hop dancers from Motion Pacific.Young performers inspire kids (and adults) with their remarkable artistic feats and their pure love of dance!
