GUALTIERO NEGRINI

Gualtiero Negrini
  2000 Tenor for Aaron Copland's
"The Tender Land"
GUALTIERO NEGRINI descends from a long line of operatic personae, his great-uncle Carlo Negrini having premiered in the role of Gabriele Adorno in Simone Boccanegra for Verdi himself. After being chosen as one of the winners of the 1980 Lyric Opera of Chicago Auditions, at the tender age of 19, he went on to make American operatic history with that company when, at the age of 21, he replaced an ailing Gosta Windbergh as Ferrando in Cosi fan tutte thereby becoming the youngest tenor to ever sing a leading role in a major American opera house. Subsequently, the Italian-American tenor from Los Angeles sang at least a dozen leading and secondary roles with that company. Negrini has also performed leading roles with the Washington Opera, Opera Columbus, Tulsa Opera, Long Beach Grand Opera and many others.

He has performed David in Die Meistersinger under the baton of Erich Leinsdorf in performances with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra.

Negrini has also been a winner of the San Francisco Opera Auditions, Lyric Opera of Chicago Auditions, and a District Finalist in the Metropolitan Opera Auditions.
