MATTHEW ANTAKY, (Scenic Designer) returns to Cabrillo Music Festival after a debut last season as Scenic and Lighting Designer for the Festival's production of Leonard Bernstein's Mass. Antaky was born in a small village in northeastern France. His first designs were while studying art in Southern California in 1981. In 1983 he moved to San Francisco to further study visual and theatrical design and since then has created scenic and lighting designs for the performing arts with many different theater and dance companies. His work has been seen throughout the United States as well as France, Canada, Italy and the former Yugoslavia.
 
Antaky's work includes three years as lighting director and visual collaborator with Lines Contemporary Ballet Co., four seasons designing for DZIGA Vertov Performance Group, seven years as resident designer with Stephen Pelton Dance Theater.

He has also created designs for Lizz Fain Dance Company, Diablo Ballet, Theater of Yugen, Joe Goode Performance Group, Leonard Pitt Performances, Gary Palmer Dance Co., Delia Davidson Dance Company, A Traveling Jewish Theater, Robert Moses Kin and The New Pickle Circus, among others. Recent work includes creating the stage designs with the Lily Cai Chinese Dance Company.

In 1993 Antaky became a founding member of Shadowlight Productions, a company pioneering new techniques and designs dedicated to the exploration and performance of shadows. The company has created the productions of In Xanadu, The Wild Party, Sidha Karya, The Tempest with the American Conservatory Theater, and in 1998 Wayan Listric/ Electric Shadows.
